Werdum can beat Cain Velasquez, thinks JDS

The jury is still out on whether Fabricio Werdum can pull off another shock and dethrone reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 180 but former divisional kingpin Junior dos Santos thinks he can do it.

The Brazilian is the only fighter in the promotion to have knocked out both Velasquez and Werdum and although he did not think very highly of his fellow Brazilian, his performance against Travis Browne changed his opinion completely.

Dos Santos said that the last outing he made against Browne was extremely impressive, adding that he hasn’t seen him fight as impressively as he did against Browne; he got a big win against a highly fancied opponent and will take that confidence into the match against Velasquez.

The former UFC Heavyweight champion also said that he will be rooting for his compatriot against Cain Velasquez but also, he thinks it is not an impossible task to beat the Cuban American.

He stated that as a Brazilian, he will hope that Werdum is able to bring the UFC gold back to the country but admits it will be a difficult, albeit a not impossible task. He mentioned that his arch enemy is a great fighter with an amazing cardio rate, but he also knows his compatriot is training very hard to combat that. Dos Santos believes if Werdum fights the same he did during his last match, he will have a great chance of winning the match.

Cain Velasquez hasn’t fought since his win over Junior dos Santos last October and his first match upon his return to the Octagon will be against Werdum and the Brazilian is hopeful this time, the Cuban American is not fully fit to secure the win against his compatriot as easily as against him.
